Game Overview
Asteroids is a momentum‑driven survival shooter. Pilot a thrust‑enabled ship in open space, blasting drifting rocks that fragment into smaller, faster shards. Collide or get hit and you lose a life—situational awareness is everything.
This minimalist version preserves classic wrap‑around space and inertia. Precision thrust bursts, rotational discipline, and threat prioritization define high‑score mastery.
Controls
- Left / Right Arrows: Rotate ship.
- Up Arrow: Thrust forward (adds velocity).
- Space: Fire projectile.
- Start: Start Game button to begin or restart.
Inertia Tip: No friction means velocity persists—short controlled thrusts beat long burns.
Scoring & Threat Curve
Large asteroids split into medium, then small fragments—each size awards increasing points. Late‑wave chaos stems from many small fast pieces crossing multiple vectors simultaneously.
Strategy Guide
1. Controlled Opening
Eliminate a single side sector to create escape space. Don’t spin randomly—intentional arcs conserve orientation.
2. Midfield Traffic Management
Track three nearest vectors, not everything at once. Peripheral flick scanning reduces cognitive overload.
3. Endgame Fragment Flood
As fragments multiply, shift from pursuit to evasion-first, then opportunistic firing when lanes open.
True survival is predictive drift accounting—reacting late to fragment vectors is terminal.
Common Mistakes
- Over-Thrusting: Creating uncontrollable drift velocity.
- Tunnel Vision: Fixating on one asteroid while another intersects path.
- Edge Ignorance: Forgetting wrap-around re-entry behind your ship.
- Late Braking: Counter-thrusting only after velocity becomes unmanageable.
